Developing Self-Awareness and Confidence – Encouraging Enterprising Attitudes

Macro student group (all students in year group – S2)
Students from 6 schools have received Personal Development Profiles designed to build self-awareness and confidence. Students from 3 of these schools have also received 9 sessions of personal development delivered by their PSE teachers using the personalised student Mindscreen Experience Diary materials, which are delivered to school in a ready to use student and teacher friendly form. These materials include a unique personal profile for each student and are specifically designed to help students build confidence and self-awareness, choose subjects to study that are in “tune” with their own personal interests and attitudes, develop Goals and a can do attitude. All parents have received a copy of their child’s personal development profile helping them understand and relate with their child.

The Mindscreen Experience Diary materials (macro group) have been developed into teacher/student/parent friendly packs, have been tested and are currently being “tweaked” to take into account teacher feedback. The materials will be finalised and ready for a 2005 school launch.

Micro student group (students identified with entrepreneurial characteristics)
Students whose characteristics match that of the previously researched “from scratch, for profit” entrepreneurial characteristics benchmark have been engaged in 27 of 29 learning experiences over a two year period, designed especially to expose them to “learn by doing” business start up and development opportunities and experiences.

The Entrepreneurial Spirit (micro group) materials have been tested by Mindscreen facilitators, researched by the External and internal evaluators and require further funding to develop them into teacher/student friendly ready to use format similar to the (macro student group) Experience Diary materials.

The SCRE Centre, Faculty of Education, University of Glasgow appointed by the Future Learning and Teaching team (FLaT) have made their interim report available to the FLaT team imminently. We are hopeful that we can agree with the FlaT team that extracts from this report can be made available to you.

More details of the student’s business development are given in the attached pdf.
